Our warm up today is on Water Hardness. Water hardness is one more indicator of water quality. Next, we did our notebook checks (Last one of the year!!!) We then completed our LAST TEST OF THE YEAR!!! (except for EOGs). The rest of the year will be small quizzes leading up to our EOG. SCIENCE EOG THURSDAY MAY 31st, 2018
After the test today, you will read and annotate pages 2-4 in the EOG booklet. This is your booklet...annotate, highlight, circle...whatever works for you. Attached below is a link to quizlet Chemistry vocabulary. Practice, practice, practice. Chemistry Vocabulary practice

Our warm up today was a review of hydrology. Reminder test and notebook check will be NEXT class. We updated our table of contents and went over the pages in the notebook. Next, we added one last set of notes on characteristics of the ocean on page 99. If you were not here, here are the notes. We did a couple reviews today one called informational gap and also a KAHOOT. Lastly, we started our EOG review, starting with Chemistry. You got your AWESOME EOG REVIEW BOOKLET (blue book), and we read pages 2-4. When you read this booklet, underline, annotate, highlight, whatever works for you . We also used quizlet for vocabuary review. The key to passing the EOG in science is knowing vocabulary. Finally, here is a review of hydrology vocabulary. You were given the handout below in class today and we attache it to page 100!!!
Here is a word bank for the hydrology vocabulary practice sheet on page 100. Test Tuesday (B day) and Wednesday (A day)
The top 4 filters in 1st block (B day) Kudos to 4th block (B day) - Almost ALL the filters were able to turn the water clear!!!! Next we went over the Zones in the Ocean (intertidal, neretic, and oceanic). We took notes on the different zones on page 98 in our notebooks. If you were not here, here is the powerpoint from today. On page 97 in our notebook we added a couple of vocabulary words (hydrothermal, phyoplankton, upwelling) If you were absent, here are the words to add. Lastly, I assigned the study guide It is not optional. It will be due the day of the test. Here is a copy, but you were also given hard copy in class.
Our warm up was on the different laws and programs out there that are supporting water quality in the United States like the EPA and Clean Water Act. Title page 96 in your notebook, "Water Protection". Click on the links and answer the following questions using complete sentences. CLEAN WATER ACT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrQdBx-lgNw 1. Why was the Clean Water Act put into place in 1972? 2. What was the goal of the 1972 Clean Water act? 3. Has this law been successful? 4. What are some things that are polluting our water? Identify 3. SAFE DRINKING WATER ACT 1974: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inLZwGZSvSc 1. What did the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974 protect? 2. Why are laws like the Safe Drinking Water necessary at the federal level? 3. Where does the Safe Drinking Water Act protect water? 4. How effective is water treatment? ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION ACT: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Environmental_Protection_Agency
Next we finished going over Water Pollution Problems in North Carolina. If you were not here, you will need to get a handout from me, and fill in the blanks from the powerpoint. Title page 97: Ocean Ecosystems. We will be using the blue handouts in the classroom to complete the 4 stations on Ocean Ecosystems. The blue handouts in class, will be in the back of the room. You will need the links below to access what you need for Stations 3 and 4. Station 1: Read the handout and complete the 3 questions on page 97. Station 2: Copy the chart below in your notebooks on page 97. Station 3 Here is the site for station 3, answer the 5 questions on page 97. Station 4 requires an infograph, here is the link to the infograph. Answer the 7 questions on page 97. If you were not here this class (NYC people), Click here for the station handouts. You are only doing pages 1-4.If you were not here this class (NYC people), Click here for the station handouts. You are only doing pages 1-4.
Our warm up today was a review of water quality from last class. The quality of water is for the organisms living in the water, not for you. (Bio indicators, temperature, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, pH) ACIDS AND BASES...93 Next we took notes on acids, bases and pH on page 92. If you were absent this class, here are the notes. Next,we moved around a little bit a did some pH testing on the back of 93. Lastly, we drew a pH scale and placed the items we tested on the pH scale as well as a few others on page 93. Next we went over some common causes and problems of water pollution in North Carolina. What you will realize is that most of the problems come down to too much excess nutrients we are adding to our water. If you were not here, you will need to get the handout from me and take a look at the powerpoint to fill in the answers. This handout goes on page 94 in your notebook.
