Our warm up today was a follow up to the lab we did last class with the bird beaks. we graphed the results and completed the conclusion. If you did not finish the conclusion, here are the questions. 1. According to your results, out of all the beaks, which species has nature selected for? Which species has nature has selected against? 2. According to your results, which “worm” is nature selecting for? What species has nature selected against? 3. If we looked at this population of birds and worms in the next 5 years, how do you think the population will change? 4. How does this activity demonstrate the concept of natural selection? Next, we did a quick review of genetics. The Genetics 101 notes will go on page 55 in your notebooks. Here are the notes if you were absent. This should all be a review from 7th grade. Finally, we completed an activity simulating natural selection using the Peppered Moths and Industrial Revolution. The website for this activity can be found here. Students clicked through the website and answered questions on the Peppered Moths on page 56 in their notebooks.
