For our warm up today we created aliens to show the shape and format of the cell membrane. The assignment was to design two identical aliens. The aliens are suppose to have 1 head, 2 legs, no body and no arms. Everything else was left up to your imagination. We put all of our aliens on a big circle on the wall in the shape of a cell membrane. By doing this, we were able to see the structure of the cell membrane, a phospholipid bi-layer. Next we went over the different organelles and their function on the back of page 69. Next we took a look at our gummy bear experiment and saw the differences between last class and today. There was quite a difference in our bears. Lastly we added notes on the cell membrane on page 71 in our notebooks. If you were not here, here are the notes on the cell membrane. To end the block you completed the conclusion for the lab on a separate sheet of paper - hopefully making connections between the lab and cells. Our purpose: Which type of water (tap water, distilled water, salt water) will cause gummy bears to swell? Which type of water (tap water, distilled water, salt water) will cause gummy bears to shrink? Based on the purpose of the lab complete the conclusion. Conclusion: Write a paragraph which explains the results of this experiment using the concept of osmosis. Include specific data to explain your results and support conclusions. Make sure you compare and contrast the similarities and differences between all three gummy bears. Draw pictures if it helps. Make sure to include the definition of osmosis.

Our warm up today reviewed our blendspace and using microscopes. Next, all A days took their quiz on energy and we went over the blendspace on page 70 in your notebooks. Next, we went over the different organelles. Cell organelles are a review from last year.
Warm up - Our warm up today was a review of energy and energy resources. Quiz next class on energy resources. (page 66 in your notebooks) We also turned in our Energy Analysis graph which was for homework last class and went over the answers to the back of our energy resource chart. We are starting our new unit today on cells and microbiology and set up our notebook with a new cover sheet and table of contents. As an intro to cells and microbiology, I wanted to give you h=guys a chance to use the microscopes. We will use them today, and a couple of times during the unit. Today will just be practice with using the microscopes and next class we will practice with microscope drawings. To review some key concepts from 7th grade science, we completed a BLENDSPACE. Use the digital content I have selected to answer the review questions. Answer the questions on page 70 in you notebook. https://www.tes.com/lessons/CQPJeW_RwfREqQ/cells cell_review.docx Download File Lastly, we highlighted and added notes to a handout that had a list of cell organelles and their functions. Quiz next class on energy (front and back of page 66)
Warm up today was a review of Potential and kinetic energy as well as renewable and non renewable resources. Next we had the different groups get up and present their posters. During the presentations we took notes on each of the energy types. Lastly, we completed an energy graphing the different prices for the energy types. If you were absent/or lost the handout, here it is.
If you were absent from the presentation today, here are my notes. Make sure you pick up the handout from me.
Our warm up today introduced our new topic ENERGY... I asked you to identify all the things you plug in at your house and why you do not unplug them when you are not using them. Next we read an article about conserving energy and what we can do to save energy. Click on the link below to access the article.
12 Household Appliances You Should Unplug to Save Money All grades are up to date...notebook checks and tests are all imputed. Please check Powerschools frequently. On page 66 in your notebook we took notes on Energy. You can find that powerpoint here. Next, we broke up into groups for the 7 different types of energy (wind, geothermal, solar, hydrothermal, fossil fuels, etc) Each group was given an article to read and then asked to create poster of their energy source to present to the class. WE will begin presenting at the end of the block today. Reminder --- If you complete the study guide you may use it on the test. It is not required and it is not extra credit. 1B it is required. Warm up today was a review for our test on trophic levels Next, we did out notebook check which will be a formal grade for this unit. Hopefully, we are able to sneak in a little review today using some review cards. TEST TODAY!!!
Our warm up today was a review of carbon cycle and nitrogen cycle. Last class we talked about organisms' role in the ecosystem. WE read an article today about the importance of each organism and what happen when that organism disappears from a population. If you were absent come by and pick up the article so you can annotate it.
We also updated out table of contents today and went through our notebooks to make sure they were all up to date. Here is the table of contents. 1.Cover…50 2.Table of Contents…51 3.Evolution of Living Things…52 4.Natural Selection and Adaption…53 5.Bird Beak Lab…54 6.Genetics …55 7.Peppered Moth…56 8.Homologous and Analogous… 57 9.Adaptation Stations…58 10.Evolution Stations…59 11.Symbiosis…60 12.Ecosystem…61 13. Blendspace...62 14.Carbon Cycle…63 15. Nitrogen Cycle...64 16. Energy pyramids...65 B-day we had to add this last set of notes to our notebooks. Make sure you add these notes to page 65. If you were absent today, here are the notes. Lastly, we reviewed for our test on my using the Scavenger Hunt from around the room. If you would like to come in on Monday or Tuesday morning before school to redo the scavenger hunt or use my flash card or just work on the study guide, I will meet you in front of the school at 7:10am. TEST AND NOTEBOOK CHECK ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY!!!
The study guide is optional. It is not for extra credit, but if you do it, you may use it on the test next week. I repeat, IT IS NOT FOR EXTRA CREDIT!!! There are 17 questions, if all 17 questions are completed, you may use the study guide while you are taking your test. 1st block B day - We will be working on your study guide in class on Friday - This is NOT optional for you, this will be for a grade.
